Holistic Approach To Overcoming Anxiety
Overcoming Anxiety: The only way out is through.
Most of the time we would try to ignore our anxiety, but we can only recover if we accept it. We already wrote about dealing with social anxiety, but here are some advice for holistic approach.
1. Educate yourself.
Learn everything you can about the physiological causes of your social anxiety. Your symptoms originate from your fears and thoughts. Even though that physical feeling of anxiety is uncomfortable, it is not harmful by itself and cannot be sustained for very long either. You have to know that though your heart is racing, you are safe and in no real danger.
2. Take care of yourself.
You need to relax and take care of yourself all the time. Alcohol, lack of sleep or nicotine just harm your body and mind. Remove those from your life and find tools that will calm you whenever anxiety strikes, so you can cope with it more easily. For example, try mindfulness meditation to get rid of anxiety fast. To relieve long-term anxiety, try progressive muscle relaxation.
3. Question your thoughts.
Be critical about your thoughts instead of accepting them as facts. Your thoughts are affecting how you feel. People with anxiety disorder often have an intensely negative view on the world around them. They often exaggerate the consequences of something happening to them, and they underestimate their ability to cope with it. So, be critical. Just because it came across your mind, it doesn’t make it true. After all, you are not really a fortune teller.
4. Be courageous.
Last, but not the least – you need to learn to face your anxiety despite the fear you’re feeling. This is the hardest part with overcoming anxiety, but it is also the only way out. Anxiety takes away your self esteem and makes you invisible. It’s easy to get stuck in rut. Start facing your fears day by day and eventually, work toward your bigger goals. So, do something despite your anxiety. This is how real change happens!
You’re a lot stronger than you think you are.
